Abigail
Course:
"My top careers tip, despite not being original, is apply for EVERYTHING! It doesn鈥檛 matter whether you feel you are the best person for the job, or currently have the right skills set. Applying for as much as you can both increases your application skills and helps increase your confidence putting yourself out there. I would have never thought I would be completing a PhD straight after consecutive BSC and MSC, but I applied and got it! You never know what job you might get if you don鈥檛 apply for it!"
George
Course: MSci Physical Oceanography
"Apply for summer internships whenever you can! They鈥檙e one of the best ways to gain relevant industry experience, explore different career paths, and demonstrate your initiative and enthusiasm to future employers."
Kallolini
Course: MSc Counselling
"Don鈥檛 let self-doubt stop you from taking action. Research thoroughly, talk to people in the same field/job, prepare well, think about what makes you stand out, highlight your strengths and don鈥檛 forget to tailor your CVs based on the role."
Luce
Course: MZool Zoology with Ornithology
"My top career tip is to step outside of your comfort zone! Whether they are small or big steps, you are sure to learn new things about not just your work, but yourself."
Nyasha
Course:
"I think my biggest career tip is not to limit yourself by what you think is possible, but to build relationships and a network around you. The more you push your career,聽the more you are set to get out of it. I like the mentality of if you don't ask, you don't receive."
Ollie
Course:
"Don鈥檛 be afraid to take a step that you think is in the wrong direction. Every experience provides you with valuable skills and sometimes a new understanding of your field, life or goals, which can really help you move forward with your career!"
Phillippa
Course: MSc Counselling
"Identify what is important to you and what your values are. Find a company and job that aligns with those values."
Saskia
Course: Adventure Sports Science, Bsc
"Remember that your career journey doesn鈥檛 have to be a straight line to be successful. Give yourself permission to explore different interests and focus on building transferable skills - like clear communication and adaptability - that will serve you well no matter where you end up."
Sebastian
Course: PhD Economics
"Don鈥檛 wait to feel 鈥渞eady鈥 before applying for something new. Most career growth comes from taking on things slightly outside your comfort zone and learning as you go."
